Head of HR (Mal) - Media Startup [25E08]

A fast-growing, well-funded technology venture in the entertainment space—backed by one of Southeast Asia’s largest seed rounds—is looking for a Head of HR to join its lean and ambitious team. With operations across Malaysia and Singapore and a mission to redefine how fandom communities connect, the company is scaling fast and needs a strategic HR leader to bring stability, culture, and foresight to its people operations.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who thrives in fast-moving environments, knows how to build trust with founders, and can independently design and implement processes that keep up with company growth.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • HR Strategy & Partnership: Act as a thought partner to the CEO and leadership team. Provide strategic HR insights and guide people-related decisions as the company grows.

  • End-to-End HR Ops: Own the full spectrum of HR processes—from onboarding to payroll—across Malaysia and Singapore, with a strong focus on compliance, efficiency, and employee experience.

  • Culture Champion: Proactively nurture a high-performance, inclusive culture. Lead engagement initiatives that foster trust, collaboration, and open feedback.

  • Talent Acquisition & Onboarding: Improve and execute hiring and onboarding processes to attract and retain top talent in a competitive market.

  • Policy Implementation: Design and implement people policies that are compliant, scalable, and aligned with local labor laws.

  • Leadership Support: Serve as a sounding board for managers and challenge leadership constructively when needed.

  • Team Management: Supervise and mentor a junior HR coordinator.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Malaysian-based HR professional 

  • 7+ years of HR experience, including leadership or strategic advisory roles.

  • A bold communicator and independent thinker—comfortable being a thought leader to leadership

  • Strong at designing and implementing HR systems, processes, and frameworks from scratch.

  • Self-starter with a hands-on, problem-solving approach and comfort in ambiguity.

  • Experience in a startup or tech environment is a strong advantage.
